Bringing us a 4 track instrumental EP, Blvck Covvboys have delivered a well constructed and technically complex project, filled with interesting creativity. Definitely worth the cop!
Track 1 ***
This track is a wavey, haunting riddim, constructed of a continuous interference-like sample, a complex snare/hihat pattern, a heavy kick, and a simple, light, on beat piano melody. There are vocal samples used as accents throughout, and later there is a secondary string synth melody. A vibe.
Track 2 Dark Matter
A heavy dark tune, this one is comprised of a strong piano synth, vocal samples, computer synth accents, a high pitched computer synth melody, patterned drums and a very different bassline made of some sort of pitch bent wooden instrument as well as an alternative melody later in the track. Can hear a few people shelling on this, still.
Track 3. Green Memory
A big track, this one kicks of a little differently, still. Starting off with a jarring, stop start style, where the sounds are cut short, using both piano and bell-like synths, as well as panned computer accents, the track kicks in proper with a heavy keyboard synth melody which is accompanied shortly after by a distorted horn-like bassline and kick pattern that follows the same pattern. There is an offbeat snare, symbols, and vocal samples as accents, throughout. A lot going on, but technically excellent!
Track 4. T.Error H.orror
Wow. This riddim is different again, with real originality! Having a certain clockwork/machine like quality to it, it begins a pitch bent synth, which evolves into stabs, then goes back again for the bassline, haunting vocal and bell-like synths create a continuous slightly shifting melodic layer,. Elsewhere in the track there are fully patterned hihats, a not too dominant kick/snare pattern, and loads of varying synth accents, as well as another pulsing melody that sounds like it was created on woodwind instrument. A full wave, for real.
