Clashing. The bread and butter of grime. It all started in Jammer's basement before we heard dubs flying around on the pirate airwaves. Fast forward to this decade, we've seen the beef between Chip and Bugzy and we've witnessed the endless dubs from P Money and Dot Rotten, but now it's more live than ever before.
With the Beat Boss final also taking place this week there's something for everyone and the more people that send and are sending back can only be a good thing for grime as a whole so people get to talking and we see that unparalleled energy reminiscent of the Lord Of The Mics days.
Now, we turn our attention to Hell In The Cell - the second installment of DJ Argue's clash that we saw at Radar Radio last year. This time, MC's have uped the anti, more dubs are flying around like it's Christmas and everyone's got their bars fully locked and loaded for this event.
Taking place at Keep Hush in London, Argue will be taking his clash to a live audience and if you thought last time was heated, you've seen nothing yet, here's why:
Step forward Ten Dixon. The South London MC has very much been the center-piece in all of this and it's clear to see why.
After multiple Instagram stories surfaced online of him sending for just about everyone, Dixon will no doubt have everyone waring on the day, but it's not like that will bother him. His dub says everything about what you can expect, straight up energy. If I was an MC, I certainly wouldn't want to be in the firing line of Ten next Monday, that's for sure.
He's already drawn for Manga and with an instant reply from the grime veteran, things are heating up already. Is Dixon getting too big for his boots? Guess we'll have to wait and see on Monday...
Listen to him send for Flirta D, Mic, Jafro, MIK and Manga in his entry dub:
Next up is Micofcourse. Arguably one of the biggest hitters in the first installment, the West London MC is looking to bury everyone this time round (in clashing terms obviously).
His relentless energy is one thing, but his humourous bars could be enough to sway the clash his way on the night. You only have to listen to his dub below to see the artillery Mic will be bringing to the table.
He comes through with the hook: “Hell In A Cell part 1 was a night night, this one here that's burial service”.
We'll hold him to that...
MIK, RD and Ten Dixon are in the scope on this one, with Big john, Reece West and even Yizzy receiving some of the shrapnel.
Following those two, RD fully goes in for Ten Dixon by cleverly imitating his flow. These two going back to back on the night will not be an under-card by any means.
With the bar “Skeng ten, skeng ten where, I put the Skeng to your ear, put Ten in the air”, you just know it will go off on the night.
Next we saw MIK join in on the action. Well he had to really with his name being called out...
He delivers a hard part 1 dub, sending for everyone with his main objective hook:
“Man will get drawn out, this ain't a game like fallout”
With part 2 coming soon, MIK is definitely showing us the shelling he has in his locker and he's definitely not here to play games...
Amidst all of this, Shadow dropped a video not only dissing everyone I've already mentioned, but pretty much the whole scene, including Funky Dee with a reference to 'are you gonna bang'.
He only had to diss a few, but he's gone and re-defined the definition of sending. It will be interesting to see who replies to this one...
This waring is exactly what grime needs right now, some hype. You could say there aren't enough MC's willing to go toe to toe with one and other, whether it be their ego getting in the way or they simply don't feel they can step up to the mark. What we do know is, this clash will go down in grime history and we can only wait to see who turns up on the day and brings the heat.
Hopefully more artists take a step out of their studios and stay true to the foundations of this genre by getting involved with clashing and the question that needs to be asked is; where would grime be without it?
All the information for the event is on the flyer below and you can RSVP for free here - https://keephush.london/liveevents/dj-argue-pres-hell-cell-ii/
