Goldie, a Grime MC from Lewisham, and part of Vision Crew, brings us a vibey new project ‘By Any Means’, packed with wavy riddims and emotive bars, this ting can be banged loud for the vibes, or played soft and chilled to, just as easy.
The overall theme of the project is that Goldie wants the P ‘By Any means’ necessary, and is willing to work as much as it takes to get himself out of the hood, and off road, living well and eating with his family.
Each riddim on the project contributes to the overall picture.
Track 1. Battle Scars, Prod. Scam
Goldie kicks of the project sharing how he’s had a hard life. His bro died, he’s seen too much, he’s had to leave some mandem behind, and he’s sick of being broke. The production is haunting and sparse, at the top end, and heavy at the low end, providing and excellent backdrop for the topic.
Track 2. The Aim, Prod. Ezro
The vibe picks up in this one, still, with the production being much skippier. Goldie leaves us in no doubt that he’s coming for the P. Recalling his progress, and determining to not struggle, we are informed Goldie means to get out the hood ASAP.
Track 3. Take A Look, Prod. Whackeye
A slightly harder track, Goldie shares how he’s sick of the fakes, the opps, the police, he’s sick of the paranoia, of people switching up on you, he’s seen and been through it all, and it’s time to get out. The hook is a vibe, and the bars are pretty impactful, explaining the situation surrounding violence in the ends.
Track 4. They Don’t, Prod. Scam
This is a riddim about chasing P to make sure his family eat. Goldie says no matter if societal structure is set up against him, he is still going to make his million. The production is a more driving for this one, with plenty of low end, and a full melody.
Track 5. Smooth, Feat. Tyzz & Ezro, Prod. Matavelli
A tune for the gyaldem, the production is reminiscent of R&B. All the spitters on the track have a similar wavy, up and down flow, and they all share that the rap game got them gyals everywhere.
Track 6. Finer Things, Prod. Ezro
This riddim is driving, still, with a synth melody that kind of sounds like a protracted siren, it’s gives the track the right emotion for the bars. Goldie informs us he’s seen way too much already, he’s gotta get paid, he’s got what it takes, the ambition, the drive, he’ll do road, he just wants to live the high life now, he’s sick of the ‘pain and struggling’.
Track 7. Mindset, Prod. Whackeye
The production for the final tune has a backwards melody, which puts you in mind of a wheel up, nice touch for the end of the project. Goldie again let’s us all know that he 100% intends to make it, and that he has all it takes, despite having really been through it.
Each track on the project gives testament to its title, ‘By Any Means’, we are left in no doubt that Goldie plans to get up out the hood, for good, in whatever way he can. A wavy project for your headtops.
