As we come into 2019 there is so much fresh talent stepping on the scene to make their mark. MC’s have been killing it so far but as those who know, know, producers are the cornerstone of grime. Bringing the duttiest riddims for the newer and more seasoned MC’s alike grime producers along with radio sets are arguably the hardest working producers in the UK, if not the world. Today I’m going to shine the spotlight on one of the hardest working up-and-coming producers in the game, El Laurie. He hails from the Reading area and currently operates out of Brighton, two locations which aren’t known for their musical potential. Especially within grime. He currently flies the flag for grime for the entire RG postcode and my god does he do it well. He brings a unique Eskibeat-Dubstep hybrid style to his tunes that absolutely pound on a big system and merge the old and new schools of grime into a deadly cocktail that will take off absolutely any head within range.
In the last week we’ve seen a new drop on soundcloud of some previously unreleased bangers going up as a free EP under the title ‘Lowd Pak’. These are some absolute headback machines and are barely an inkling of the production superpowers this dude possesses. He’s been firing out mailouts for the best part of a year to all the luckiest selectors with his latest heat and it’s not at all out of the ordinary to hear some of his best work spinning on Mode FM from the likes of DJ Citrus and Ob-Server. We also heard one of his best tunes to date on a free compilation from Dubzta’s Tormented Audio which can be found on bandcamp and located via Dubzta’s own or the Tormented Audio twitter pages.
We’re still yet to hear one of Mr Laurie’s productions on a track with an MC but with the material that we’re hearing the days left until that happens are numbered for sure. Although don’t be fooled, there are rumours floating around that he possesses a dubplate from Young leng merchant, SBK, speculated to be clashing T Roadz at some point this year. My sources tell me DJ’s can expect another mailout in the next couple of months that is an absolute level above anything we’ve heard from the man before so I suggest producers/DJs keep an eye on their emails and an ear on Mode FM because you do NOT want to miss out.
This lad is definitely someone to look out for over the next couple of years and I would seriously recommend checking him out to save yourself time next year. Gonna be doing it anyway so might aswell get a headstart people. El Laurie, remember it.
