The highly anticipated project from RD ‘Filthy Ard’ is here and completely produced by Filthy Gears, FR336IXTY and Dirty Cipher take you through…
A nice opener to the EP, a relaxed instrumental with a vibe that is reminiscent of D Double E’s ‘Lyrical Hypnosis’, in my opinion. RD surfs over a constant ride cymbal, low airy pads and lazy drum pattern, talking about where he is in his journey and his vision of where he is aiming for. Patterned with a high pitched, looped, continuous vocal synth and low low brass stabs, RD shares he’s putting in that work. Jarring, and a wave all at once
No Long Ting:
This one features Flowdan, and Filthy has patterned a bouncy Reggae/Dub influenced instrumental with a punchy baseline and synth stabs, if you hear this one lay and don’t move, you’re on hard food! With choppy piano synth melodies, and computer synths floating over the top, RD and Flowdan let you know that its no long ting to bun a MC, Stage or radio set. This ones gonna go off in a live show. A whole wave, fr.
A brass led beat gives RD the base to shell and let us know that he’s still here and he’s ‘still’ got bars for days as he spits the refrain over and over, with a different ending to each bar. An 808 leads the drums with a clap on every 3rd beat to the bar and a spooky vocal sample whines in the background has Filthy giving the track a very cold feel. The whole track has an urgent, dark quality to it, with OG Grime vibes.
Starting off with high energy synth, Filthy drops into a skippy brass and siren led beat with a heavy low sub that follows the brass before switching into a punchy square bass line for the chorus. This track features Maxta and RD’s brother MR. X who both shell the tune differently, All MC’s complement each others styles and no-one sounds out of place, creating a wheel up riddim and a mosh scene between them, yet another sick track.
Featuring MR. X and Rawza, this one is a dark, hard and threatening, still. The MC’s are backed by Filthy’s high pitched synth, which stays constant throughout the track and a low end bass line, that gives you that real war vibe. Once again the MC’s punish the instrumental, spitting about being real Gs, bill it and zone out to this one. Some OG patterns for your head tops.
A few more big names join RD on ‘Ice Cream’, Darkos, Ten Dixon, Crafty893 and Syer B lend a hand in merking this track in what feels like a power punch of bars. The MC’s go back to back, and slap lyric after lyric over a filtered and reversed piano on a lazy drum pattern which I felt was quite psychedelic in sonics, a distorted bass comes in near the end of the tune that will make your chest shake, and there are vocal synths everywhere keeping pace!! Filthy went in, all the MCs shelled hard, One for the live shows 100%.
RD finishes the EP with Filthy’s aggressive war pattern, which is an official remix of ‘Firin Shots’. He gives us pure war bars over a wobbly synth and string stabs with a trap esque drum pattern, the riddim being a whole vibe on its own, with a real sense of impending danger and urgency, when this is performed it’s gonna go off!
A sick project over all, well balanced in terms of energy, can be listened to at any time, in the yard, at the rave, everywhere. Cop it, cop it, cop it!
